Member-countries of the UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidentscame to agreement

The current status of the Project for the Elaboration of Safety Guidelines and Good Industry Practices for Oil Terminals will be discussed on the UNECE initiative on 23-25 September, 2013,in Odessa.
Alexey Isakov, Director for Science of GCE Group, will make a report on consequences and lessons of the accident with vertical steel tanks at Konda oil terminal (Sibnefteprom, August 2009).

In development since 2011, the document is to become the guideline for all Europe in the sphere of protection of transboundary waters from industrial accidents. The project has been realized by the UNICE Expert Group, including Alexander Moskalenko and Alexey Isakov, members of the GCE Group Board. As a result, the preliminary draft of Safety Guidelines and Good Industry Practices for Oil Terminals has been prepared.

The workshop participants will study the text of the draft Guidelines that are to regulate the entire life cycle of oil terminals in order to reduce their accident rates. The workshop is held within the framesof the project on hazard and crisis management in the Danube Delta.

The host city was chosen for a good reason. The sea port of Odessa is one of the largest on the Black Sea by port capacity. The workshop participants will discuss safety standards of the Odessa Oil Terminal and will also visit it for a tour around facilities.
