Expert: buffer zones approval will take less time

Six months instead of three years

Timeframes for approving buffer zones shall be considerably reduced after new regulations come into force. This was declared by Svetlana Maltseva, Head of Ecology Department of GCE Ecology, at the International Forum on Industrial Safety on Wednesday, BNA reports.

«We may hope that once the new regulations have been adopted, the process of approving buffer zones will become simpler and faster. It used to take up to three years to go through all stages. Now the approval and design may take no more than 6 months», said Ms. Maltseva.

The new regulations are the Decree of the Chief Public Health Physician on enactment of the new revision of the Sanitary Rules and Regulations and three proposed orders of Rostechnadzor: on setting the administrative procedure for permissions issue, on establishing checkpoints and on approving the form of resolution on amendment or removal of buffer zones.

Buffer zones are special areas of restricted use. They are established around industrial facilities that affect the environment and public health.

The International Forum on Industrial Safety is held in St. Petersburg every year. In 2018, it is the 16th time. This year the Forum venue is Hilton Hotel St. Petersburg Expoforum. The conference was attended by more than 170 people from different states. The organizer is GCE Group.
